Lysimeter

PROBLEM
Lysimeters are used to determine the amount of deep infiltration into a Geo ¨C structure. Because most of the flow in a lysimeter is unsaturated, the design of a lysimeter is crucial to its long-term performance. It is very easy to design a lysimeter in which water enters a lysimeter but is pulled out through unsaturated capillary action prior to being drained from the lysimeter.
 
SOLUTION
An unsaturated seepage numerical model such as SVFlux is ideal for the design of a lysimeter. In particular the mesh refinement in the unsaturated zone makes the software particularly well-suited for the calculation of unsaturated flow in an accurate way.
