SVOffice™: Next Generation Geotechnical Software

Bell County Earthen Dam

In This Issue

This article presents a recent project performed by undergraduate students at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Their project is the culmination their degrees in a capstone class. The objective of the class was to present an opportunity to apply design skills to execution of an open-ended integrated civil engineering design project, including field and laboratory investigations, numerical and scale modeling, design, and formal oral and written presentation of results. Their project considers safety, reliability, environmental, economic, and other constraints, as well as ethical and social impacts.

Research projects often require the use of raw data from conventional software packages to be incorporated into advanced customized solutions. It is often hard to find commercial software that allows you access to the raw data. SVFlux not only gives you access, it allows you to export the raw data in several user defined formats. This feature has been invaluable in my Ph.D. program.

Short Course: 2D / 3D Slope Stability Analysis Related to Mining Earth Structures

This course will present advanced topics related to both 2D and 3D slope stability analysis areas. The focus will be on aspects of a correct numerical analysis of slopes by the limit equilibrium methodology. The focus will be on advanced concepts of slope stability analysis and their application. Applications of 3D solutions to real-world problems will be covered.

The course will also cover advances in the area of slope stability analysis in applying unsaturated principles to slope stability models. A combination of classic limit equilibrium as well as more advances stress-based numerical models will be covered in terms of their applicability to practical problems.
